Let's be clear. The game itself looks like a dull-as-ditchwater Gears of War clone, but the technology behind it is clearly rather clever and interesting. The below images are taken from a trailer for SHADOWGUN, a game in which you are John Slade and you shoot things, etc etc and so on.
But developer Madfinger Games claims this will run on Tegra 2 powered Android devices, thanks to the Unity engine's cross-platform development environment, which is damn impressive indeed:
There's a full-size MP4 trailer online here if you'd like so see more. We couldn't work out how to embed it. It's probably already on YouTube, but we're not interested enough in being a space marine and shooting things to check. Here's the press release:
Unity Technologies Storms WWDC 2011 and E3 2011 with SHADOWGUN Trailer
Unity Technologies today unveiled a stunning new gameplay trailer for SHADOWGUN a Unity powered action title set to storm iPad 2, Tablets and Smartphones in 2011. Developed by Madfinger Games, creators of Samurai II: Vengeance, SHADOWGUN showcases next-gen graphics and immersive gameplay authored in the Unity development platform. SHADOWGUN was highlighted on stage at Apple’s WWDC 2011 at their Graphics State of the Union talk and is being previewed at E3 2011 to press and analysts.
Authored with the Unity development platform, SHADOWGUN combines tactical combat with third person harrowing action, ushering in a new visual standard for handheld gaming. SHADOWGUN puts players into the role of John Slade, a professional bounty hunter in the year 2350. Players must lead “shadowgun” John Slade as he infiltrates Dr. Simon’s mountain fortress and fights his personal army of mutants, cyborgs, and genetically-enhanced humanoids. Using state-of-the-art weaponry, ships, and the assistance of S.A.R.A.—Slade’s personal android assistant. The story is written by award winning author Micah Nathan who has joined the MadFinger team as executive creative consultant for SHADOWGUN.
